Showing of Anonymous People

September 22, 2014 | 7:00 pm

Is observance of Recovery Month, the movie Anonymous People will be shown. This documentary film features prominent people who live publicly in long-term recovery and discusses how 23 million other Americans are also living publically in long-term recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. Their brave testimonies dispel long-standing cliches about addiction and recovery which we hope will help to break down the deeply entrenched social stigma and discrimination that have kept recovery voices silent and faces hidden for decades. This passionate new public recovery movement is fueling a changing conversation that aims to transform public opoinion, and finally shift problematic policy toward lasting recovery solutions.

FREE Business Development Workshop

September 30, 2014 | 11:30 am-1:00 pm

Military veterans and active-duty personnel interested in starting their own business or expanding an existing operation are invited to attend a free business development workshop at the Clovis Civic Center, located at 801 Schepps Blvd. A free lunch will also be served to all attendees.

The workshop is part of the ongoing VBOC On The Road series of business development workshops for veterans presented by the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services and partnering organizations. New Mexico VBOC Director Joseph Long and representatives from the partnering agencies will present information on how the agencies can help veterans succeed with starting and expanding their own business. Among the topics to be covered are: How to determine if a business idea is feasible, available financial assistance for veterans, special business incentives for New Mexico veterans, how to create a Business Plan, how to pursue government contracting possibilities, veteran-friendly franchise opportunities, and other ways the VBOC and the presenting partners can help a veteran business owner. Veterans can take advantage of private “walk-in” counseling sessions immediately after the presentation for more personal assistance.

Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration is strongly recommended by calling the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce at (575) 763-3435, or the Portales/Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce at (575) 356-8541.
